Aerial Rice Field Larviciding to Begin Saturday, June 13, 2015

Date:
06/12/2015

The Sutter-Yuba Mosquito and Vector Control District plans to begin aerial treatment of area rice fields to curtail mosquito production. The District contracts with an agricultural crop dusting service to perform the work. The fields to be treated are outside of urban and residential areas located north of Marysville, east of Linda/Olivehurst, east of Plumas Lake, northeast of Sutter and west of Yuba City. The District uses a target specific larvicide to kill mosquitoes in the larval stage. The product used is Vectobac 12 AS. The material is applied over large blocks of rice from low altitude with ultra low volume (ULV) spray equipment at the rate of 6 ounces per acre. The applications rotate through six areas and then begin again at a 10 day interval. Applications are made only when larvae are present and weather conditions are favorable. The program should be completed in early August
